Do you ever feel like you have nothing to wear while staring into a packed closet?

That is exactly where I start - the clothes in your closet! Let’s prioritize what you like, what fits well and what you gravitate toward. Then figure out how to combine pieces in fun new ways.

Then we can think about shopping - in store or online - to look for a few gems to update your existing collection and add versatility.

“Cindy cut through the clutter of fashion trends and influencers to help me understand the styles and clothing combinations that work for me - and how to maximize what’s already in my wardrobe. Her closet make-over left me with more room in my closet, more appreciation for clothes I already own and a clear sense of what wardrobe investments to consider next.”

Follow these tips to start curating your own closet…

What do you find yourself wearing all the time? Skirts, pants, sweats, flats, heels, jeans… make a list

In Marie Condo’s organizing tips she suggests you dump everything from your closet in a large pile and go through them one by one to see if they ‘spark joy’. I find that a little overwhelming, I prefer to edit my wardrobe in sections. Here are section examples…

T-shirts
Blouses
Sweaters
Jackets
Pants
Jeans
Skirts
Dresses
Exercise clothes
Coats
Shoes
Lingerie

Make the list based on your closet collection. If you have a large amount in one category, break it up. For example create shoe groups: sneakers, flats, heels, sandals, boots.

I’ll start with t-shirts…
Take all your t-shirts out. Separate the dinghy, holey ones - create a donation pile.

Try on the remaining shirts and see what fits. If it is a favorite but has a stain, try the dry cleaner, they have saved a few of my favorites.

Look for a trend.
Most people have a go-to shape and tend to own a lot of that same style. Try to pair down and keep only 1 or 2 of each silhouette (short sleeve, long sleeve, tank) , maybe in different colors.

Join the present.
Keep what works for your life now. Maybe styles have shifted or your body has changed. Keep what works today.

Start with staples.
Consider staples the foundation. You can mix and match them to create a large number of outfits. Look for staples in your closet. Here are examples in each category.

Shoes:
Flat
Heel
Sandal
Sneaker
Boot
Neutral color options: black, metallic light or dark silver, maroon, navy

T-shirts:
Short sleeved (or tank) simple black or navy, and white
Long sleeved simple black or navy, and white

Straight leg pair of jeans
Fitted blazer
Dress pant or skirt

Additions
Once you pair down your closet to the pieces you love, are comfortable in and fit well it’s time shop for what is missing.
